HR and culture leaders

The 9 best HR and culture newsletters you should be reading

April 4, 2022

Whether you’re an HR professional or a team leader, communities provide opportunities to ask questions, learn about how others lead and are a great reminder that we’re all facing many of the same changes and challenges in the workplace. We've put together this list of the top 9 HR, management, and people leader newsletters you should subscribe to.

Having a community of peers is critical for any leader to succeed. Whether you’re an HR professional or a team leader, communities provide opportunities to ask questions, learn about how others lead and are a great reminder that we’re all facing many of the same changes and challenges in the workplace.

One of our favourite ways to see community building in action is simple yet amazingly useful newsletters. That’s right — newsletters. Social media might be the first thing you think of when you hear the word community building, but a newsletter with consistently great content can be the best foundation for the network you are trying to build.

We asked our community members for their favourites to put together this list of the top 9 HR, management, and people leader newsletters you should subscribe to.

Raw Signal Group

Raw Signal Group is on a mission to build better bosses — and their bi-weekly newsletter hits your inbox every other Wednesday with hard truths like:

“But if we’re going to talk about the future of work, at some point, we need to actually talk about the work. Every company out there wants to tell us how nicely we’ll be treated for doing the work. About the time off from the work. And the mental health supports for the work. But what about the actual work?”

Founders Johnathan and Melissa Nightingale bring years of experience leading teams at major tech companies to their insightful writing. They’re also the authors of two books, How F*cked Up Is Your Management: An Uncomfortable Conversation About Modern Leadership and Unmanageable: Leadership Lessons from an Impossible Year.

Lenny’s Newsletter

Lenny Rachitsky’s weekly newsletter covers the topics any startup founder has a question on — from growth marketing to people management and everything in between. We enjoyed his post from last November on how to “manage up.” Talking to a manager or team leader can be a daunting task, and Lenny comes through with some great advice on being a better communicator.

HR Brew

HR Brew is from the same team behind the wildly popular Morning Brew daily newsletter. With HR Brew, you get a newsletter every Monday and Wednesday with stories and insights on the rapidly changing ways we work.

First Round Review

The First Round Review is a membership-based community for startup leaders. Each week, the First Round Review newsletter brings you stories from HR, product, and marketing leaders on how they’re scaling their businesses.

Better Allies

Building a more inclusive and equitable workplace for everyone takes more than talking. It takes action. The weekly newsletter from Better Allies brings you concrete examples of how to be just that — a better ally to your team, customers, and vendors.

People Ops Weekly

Newsletters come in all sizes. The People Ops Weekly newsletter packs a week’s worth of ideas, stories, insights, and jobs into an excellent five-minute read. Sign up to get your copy delivered every Friday.

People People Group

The People People Group’s bi-weekly newsletter brings ideas and best practices to improve the employee and candidate experience. Each newsletter includes fantastic suggestions on podcasts and events for HR and people leaders looking to attract and retain great talent.

Greatness Magnified

If you haven’t had the chance to hear Sarah McVanel speak, then you need to add that to your to-do list. McVanel talks about recognizing greatness in the workplace or wherever you happen to be. We sat down with her for an interview last December, and we’re weekly readers of her newsletter.

Chocolate Soup

Last but not least, we send out a monthly newsletter focusing on employee recognition and celebration. Each month we feature stories, podcasts, and videos that can help you create a workplace culture that recognizes employees’ professional and personal milestones.
